Traxxas is rolling out the party paint for its 40th birthday. The RC giant has started shipping special 40th Anniversary Edition models of three of its most iconic 1/10-scale platforms: the Slash, Stampede, and Rustler.
All three trucks wear a sharp red, white, and blue livery that pays homage to four decades of Traxxas being, as the company puts it, “the fastest name in radio control.” It’s a simple but effective way to mark the milestone without messing with the proven hardware underneath.
What Gets the Anniversary Treatment?
The anniversary lineup covers a trio of Traxxas best-sellers:
- Slash – the short-course truck
- Stampede – the monster truck
- Rustler – the stadium truck
Each model in the 40th Anniversary series comes in 1/10 scale and is finished in the celebratory tri-color scheme. The primary article confirms that the special livery is applied to “numerous 1/10th scaled favorites” and that the vehicles are now shipping.
What’s Under the Anniversary Paint?
While the anniversary treatment is primarily cosmetic, at least the Slash variants are getting more than just a new look. Product listings from retailers such as Graves RC and Havoc Speed reveal that the 40th Anniversary Slash 2WD Brushless and Slash 4×4 Brushless models are equipped with Traxxas’s latest-generation drivetrain and electronics.
Both Slash anniversary models feature:
- Velineon VX3 waterproof electronic speed control – compatible with 2s and 3s LiPo, with three drive profiles (Sport, Race, and Training Mode) and telemetry capability
- Velineon V3200 brushless motor – a 3200Kv sensorless motor with sintered neodymium magnets, internal and external cooling fans, and a 5 mm output shaft
- New composite GTR shocks with threaded collars and large oil capacity
- New aerodynamic clipless bodies designed for high-speed stability
- New TQi Sport 2.4 GHz radio system with Traxxas Stability Management (TSM)
- Extreme Heavy-Duty suspension and driveline components
The Slash 4×4 anniversary edition also includes a torque-biasing center drive and Maxx-duty driveshafts with 6 mm axles. Both Slash models are rated for 35+ mph on 2s LiPo and over 50+ mph on 3s LiPo out of the box with no gearing change required.
The primary article does not detail the specific hardware changes for the Stampede and Rustler anniversary editions. Those trucks are confirmed to wear the special red, white, and blue livery, but the available sources do not specify whether they share the same upgraded components as the Slash.
Where to Find Them
The 40th Anniversary Editions are already appearing at hobby retailers. Graves RC lists the Slash 2WD Brushless Anniversary Edition, while Havoc Speed shows the Slash 4×4 Brushless version as in stock and ready for same-day pickup and shipping. Mytobbies also has the Slash 2WD anniversary model listed, indicating that stock is reaching multiple channels.
Celebrating 40 Years of Speed
The 40th Anniversary Editions are a direct nod to Traxxas’s legacy. The patriotic color scheme serves as a visual reminder of the brand’s four-decade run in the RC industry. The anniversary models are now shipping, and with the popularity of the Slash, Stampede, and Rustler, they represent a limited-run collectible for enthusiasts. No details have been provided on total production numbers or whether the run is strictly limited.
